Musical Programme in Notte Scarlata

On Sunday 6th June, our Musical Society was asked by Sannat Local Council to perform a one-hour musical programme. The latter formed part of the activities that the Local Council of Sannat brought up in Ta’ Sannat Notte Scarlata, a feast meant for all the family.  Our Band, for this occasion, played its programme at Saint Margaret Square and this, needless to say, to the delight to all those present.

Maestro Josef Debrincat, our Band leader, tried on this evening to appease everyone present, thus presenting a repertoire to the tastes of all.  In the end he really succeeded.

As bands all over the world are notably associated to play marches, Maestro Debrincat opened the evening programme by conducting Scale Reale, a band march written by the Italian composer Gioachino Scomegna.   Next on the programme was the polka Bohmischer Traum of Norbert Galle.

Skewing away from its formal playing of marches, St Margaret Band passed to delight its audience by playing popular songs such as “The Show must go on” written by song writer Brian May, “My heart will go on” from the film “Titanic”, Bryan Grey Adam’s “Everything I do, I do it for you”, an Italian song from San Remo’s Festival of 1995, “Con Te Partiro”, or better known for its English version “Time to say goodbye”.

Singer Francesca Sciberras was due now to take its place on the stage in order to sing “One Moment in Time”, accompanied by Saint Margaret Band under the baton of Maestro Josef Debrincat. After Francesca was introduced to the public by compere Wally Terribile, she took her place on the stage where she interpreted her sang immaculately; her interpretation of “One Moment in Time” brought to her a big round of applause by all those present for the programme. Francesca Sciberras, besides having strong family roots in Sannat, was last year’s winner of Malta’s Junior Eurovision Song Festival.

This programme came to end by the playing of the Musical Society’s Anthem, followed by the National Anthem.
